JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
PROJECT ARCHAEOLOGIST

Duties: As full-time Project Archaeologist you would be tasked with running the Preservation arm of the Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project. Duties include (but are not limited to):  recording and cataloging petroglyphs as cultural artifacts in permanent archives to be accessed by researchers and planners, identifying areas of petroglyph concentration, documenting archeological and cultural landscape features, recording all data pertaining to petroglyph and cultural landscape, and organizing archaeological fieldwork and field survey work with an experienced crew of volunteer citizen scientists. Other duties include:  assisting in grant writing, helping manage and run an annual summer youth intern program, assisting in occasional fundraising activities or tours for potential funders, representing the Project in conferences and through written media or other presentations, and communicating/liaising with professional people, agencies, government, landowners, and organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: At least one year of experience as an archeologist, anthropologist, researcher, or research assistant.  Experienced with data collection and management, Microsoft Office including Access, leading fieldwork and managing multi-year (large) data sets, participation in youth and adult education and outreach, and project design and implementation.
Preference given to applicants with record of public speaking, presentations, and published research. Preference also given to applicants with GPS and ArcGIS training, and experience and training in the recording and documentation of petroglyphs and cultural landscape features. Preferred applicants will also have experience with grant writing.

EDUCATION: Masters level in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related degree.

Note: Interviews will be held after March 11th for a start date of April 1st, 2019. No applications will be accepted after March 7th, 2019. You will have the privilege of spending a full month training with our current project archaeologist!
