ASNM Rock Art Council

The New Mexico Archaeological Society's Rock Art Council is a body of professional and avocational archaeologists and petroglyph recorders and interested others from around the state and beyond. Their goals include the development of a state-wide compatible system of recording practices and data management; training of and assistance to petroglyph recorders; being a clearing house for the expansion of the current categorization system to include elements in diverse cultural areas within the state; and provision of education about petroglyphs.

The Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project has been an essential partner in the development of standards and practices as embodied by the Council, with regard to categorization and database design. As a RAC member, MPPP continues to participate in the ongoing work of the Council.
