2009 Volunteer Recognition

Lee and Candie Borduin trained as petroglyph recorders in 2002 and immediately became active in several aspects of the project.  They surveyed and implemented a field plan for recording the 250 acre Salazar property; resurveyed and administered the re-recording of the Wells Petroglyph Preserve, a four-year effort yielding a 40% increase in the number of petroglyphs recorded; and were the lead developers of a unique GPS program that allows recorders to see

Lee and Candie were recognized for their long commitment to MPPP with the
Borduin Award

exactly where they are within their provenience on the 10,000 acre Cook property.
They both have been leaders in training and mentoring new recorders and have recorded thousands of petroglyphs, often in the most difficult areas of the mesa to access.  Candie helped develop a Site Steward program on the Wells Petroglyph Preserve, serves on the MPPP Petroglyph Committee and is coordinating the teams working on Richard Cook’s property.  Currently, Candie is developing a MPPP comprehensive web site with the support of a technical volunteer.  The Borduin Award is the first recognition award given to any MPPP volunteer.  These achievements are truly above and beyond the call of duty!
