Wells Petroglyph Preserve named "Threatened and at-Risk
by the Cultural Landscape Foundation® continued

The Wells Petroglyph Preserve has been listed among the nation's eleven most threatened and at-risk art-in-the-landscapes in 2014 by the Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF).  Selected from over 100 submissions, the sites recognized in 2014 are detailed through in-depth narratives and newly commissioned photography by the Landslide® 2014:  Art and the Landscape's thematic compendium.
A press summary of the recognition reads:  "Wells Petroglyph Preserve - the ancient petroglyph rock art at the Wells Petroglyph Preserve in Northern New Mexico on Mesa Prieta includes some 8,000 to 10,000 images created over a 7,500 year period.  Mesa Prieta is located along the El Camino Real de Adentro National Historic Trail.
"A multi-year drought in the region has worsened erosion at the site and the Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project, despite its best efforts, is struggling to stabilize recent damage.  In addition, funds are needed to conduct a feasibility study and engineer's assessment to determine the extent of the present and future damage and appropriate solutions and associated costs."
