Information and Application

The Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project is pleased to invite area high school students to apply to this year's Summer Youth Intern Program (SYIP). Each year we invite youths to join our Project Archaeologist and Adult Mentors for hands-on learning about conservation and historic preservation through a unique STEM and Humanities curriculum. Student-interns practice citizen science recording petroglyphs and archaeological features, and learn skills is art, writing, and communicating history. We strongly encourage indigenous and Hispano/a youths (as well as students from any background!) to experience this region's cultural heritage in person. Interns may opt to earn dual credit (3 college credit hours!!) for their participation, a huge advantage for anyone considering applying to college after high school. SYIP alumni have gone on to earn college degrees, attend graduate school, and work both in preservation and at renowned research labs!

On this page, you will find information about how to apply to this year's Summer Youth Intern Program. Please follow all application instructions closely, as we use a competitive admissions process. Several need-based diversity scholarships covering tuition and paying modest stipends will also be awarded this year, so please apply!
