Volunteer Recognition and Awards
Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project values its over one hundred volunteers who contribute thousands of hours a year to the Project activities. A number of the volunteers have been with the Project for over ten years and many more for over five. Our volunteers bring refreshing and fruitful ideas to the Project based on past experience and expertise, use their own vehicles on the poor roads on the mesa, provide their own fuel and much much more - and - they are the core of the Project!

The Annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic is held in the fall near the mesa. All volunteers are invited as well as guests. A wonderful potluck meal is followed by presentations, awards and tours. Above left, volunteers and guests enjoy a gourmet lunch; above right, Chuck Hannaford, Project Director for the Office of Archaeological Studies discusses artifacts and culture of New Mexico.
