                                                 In Memory

                                 Dr. Jerry Brody

                                    APRIL 24, 1929 - MAY 5, 2024

Albuquerque - Dr. J.J. (Jerry) Brody passed away at home on May 5, 2024. He was surrounded by family, and his beloved wife, Jean, was at his side.
Dr. Brody was an esteemed professor at the University of New Mexico and served as curator and director of the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology from 1962–1985. A pioneer in his field, he authored sixteen books, many of them foundational in the art history world.
Dr. Brody and his wife Jean co-hosted  an ASNM Rock Art Field School with  Jay and Dr. Helen Crotty on what is now the Wells Petroglyph Preserve soon after Katherine Wells purchased the property.  Thanks to this knowledgeable couple, a professional assessment of the cultural value of the property was established.  Mesa Prieta is fortunate to have had the guidance of such luminaries!
He was a much beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; a respected colleague, scholar, and educator; and a valued friend and neighbor. He was rarely caught without a joke or a terrible pun.
Dr. Brody is survived by Jean, his three children (Jefferson Lindsey Brody, Jonathan Edward Brody, and Allison Janet Brody), five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was buried on May 7th, 2024, near his home in San Pedro with a small graveside service. A public memorial service for Dr. Brody will be held on Friday, May 17, 4:00–6:00 pm at UNM, location to be determined. Please visit www.FrenchFunerals.com for more information and updates on service venue.
